Aim and Scope
Since its inception in 1999, its ambitious objective remains the same: to become a platform for promoting high-quality scientific exchange of approaches, methods, conceptions and ideas across languages and cultures, theoretical and applied linguistics.
The journal addresses the researchers who focus on the following fields: theoretical and empirical linguistics (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Russian etc.), comparative and contrastive linguistics, text linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, cultural linguistics and intercultural communication, computational and mathematical linguistics, applied linguistics (but not language teaching and learning), translation studies, cognitive linguistics, discourse analysis etc.
We invite all researchers and scholars to share their results and experiences in the fields of language, linguistics, literature and cross-cultural communication.Section Policies

Open Access Policy
"NSU Vestnik. Series: Linguistics and Intercultural Communication" is an open access journal. All articles are made freely available to readers immediatly upon publication.
Our open access policy is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition - it means that articles have free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.

Peer-Review
- Papers submitted to the Journal are registered and pre-reviewed by the Executive Secretary to ensure that the manuscripts in question conform to the Journal’s research areas and formal requirements.
- If the author(s) fail to meet the Journal’s formal requirements, the manuscript will be sent to them for revision within the specified period of time with a list of remarks motivating the rejection. In this case, the manuscript received after correction will be registered the date of its second or last submission.
- The Editorial Board’s decision whether the submitted paper has been accepted or refused shall be sent to the author(s) by the Executive Secretary.
- The papers accepted by the Editorial Board, undergo peer-reviewing. The reviewer and the author are not affiliated currently with the same institution. Peer-reviewers’ names are not given to the author(s).
- If the review contains some recommendations concerning the revision or finalization of the paper, the Executive Secretary shall send the author the review and a reviewed copy of the paper. The author is supposed to take into account the recommendations of the reviewer while finalizing the paper or, if the author disagrees with some or all the recommendations of the reviewer, to argue his/her position point by point. The author’s response to the reviewer’ feedback may be included in the text of the paper (in the form of remarks, additional evidence or footnotes) or sent in a separate letter accompanying the revised paper.
- Since the Editorial Board strives to speed the process of editing as much as it is possible, we invite the authors to highlight the modifications made in their revised papers (unless they are sent by a separate letter).
- If the Editorial Board state that an agreement between the reviewer and the author was not achieved, a second round of reviewing is done.
- The Editorial Board may formulate its own opinion concerning any article published in the Journal if the panel considers the author’s approach to be controversial.
- The Journal accepts manuscripts in Russian and English.
- A manuscript submitted in English should be written in good English. Authors not quite confident in their Scientific English are recommended to consult specialists practicing the academic writing professionally or having a background in editing Scientific English. The reviewing procedure for manuscripts submitted in English is the same as for those written in Russian.
- The editors will assist international authors writing their papers in Russian by editing their text in line with the norms and conventions of Standard and Scientific Russian. International graduate students and those working on their Master’s thesis as well as undergraduates studying in Russian Universities under a Russian supervisor are advised to have their paper proofread or checked by their scientific advisor for possible mistakes / accuracy in Russian.
- Manuscripts that were not approved by the reviewer(s) can’t be accepted for publishing and the notification about this decision of the Board will be sent to the author(s) along with a motivated rejection letter to the email address indicated in their paper.
- The maximum time span for peer reviewing is 2 months from the moment the manuscript is received by the Editorial Board. If the manuscript was returned to the author for modifications, it is registered for completing reviewing procedure the day the revised version arrives.
- When the final decision about publication of the paper is taken, the Executive Secretary notifies the author(s) about it by e-mail. Still, to have the approved paper published, the authors are required to send the Editorial Board a letter (.doc, .pdf) confirming that they have not changed their plan to have their paper published in the Journal.
Publishing Ethics
In its activities/activity the Editorial Board of the «NSU Vestnik» Journal, Series «Linguistics and Intercultural Communication» follows the guidelines formulated by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), https://publicationethics.org which are to be met by all the participants of the manuscript preparation and publishing process (hereinafter – “participants of manuscript preparation process”): the Editorial Board, Editor-in-Chief, authors, and reviewers.
The Editorial Board
- Follows the open access policy permitting free access to the archive of all issues from 2006, including the latest, available at the Journal's site http://www.nsu.ru/archive, the major Russian electronic platform eLibrary https://elibrary.ru/title_about.asp?id=11923, and the platform of the electronic science library CyberLeninka https://cyberleninka.ru/journal/n/vestnik-novosibirskogo-gosudarstvennogo-universiteta-seriya-lingvistika-i-mezhkulturnaya-kommunikatsiya
- Publishes the accepted papers free of charge without any fees for technical correction, reviewing, or proofreading.
- Evaluates the content of manuscripts, regardless of commercial or other non-scientific interests.
- Does not disclose any information on the manuscripts submitted to the Journal prior to their publication.
- Makes decisions about publication based on peer reviewers’ responses.
- Takes into account possible conflicts of interest among the participants of manuscript preparation process and strives to prevent them.
- Provides the author(s) with an opportunity to improve the manuscript in line with the Editorial Board’s and reviewer’s recommendations.
The Editor-in-Chief
- Strives to prevent ethical conflicts among the participants of manuscript preparation process and does his/her best to resolve them should they occur.
- Makes decisions about manuscript publication based on the following criteria: manuscript relevance to the journal’s profile, clear definition of its aim, topicality, novelty, significance and validity of the results, text logic and cohesion, as well as sufficiency and adequacy of information to evaluate the correctness of the research.
- Rejects a manuscript containing plagiarism and self-plagiarism.
- Aims at increasing the Journal’s status, the publications’ quality and circulation; follows the trends, new opportunities, and normative regulations in the research publication policies.
The Reviewer
- Evaluates topicality, novelty, and scientific value of the manuscript, its logic and coherence, as well as appropriate use of other researchers’ results providing correct references to other authors.
- While reviewing the manuscript takes into account only its content.
- Reports all detected instances of borrowings, plagiarism, and self-plagiarism to the Editor-in-Chief.
- Respects and follows confidentiality of the reviewing process.
- Does not disclose any information on the manuscripts submitted to the Journal prior to their publication.
- Writes a well motivated review of the manuscript, providing a correct and constructive criticism or useful comments, aiming at its improvement within the time lim it indicated in the Manuscript Reviewing Procedure (http://nsu.ru/paper_way).
- Informs the Editor-in-Chief of any financial, administrative or personal conflicts of interest and refuses to review the manuscript in the case of any such conflicts.
The Author
- Submits an original unpublished manuscript that does not contain plagiarism and that is sent only to the Journal in question; in case the author uses research data from his/her own sources (such as a doctoral thesis) the contributor must make sure that the amount of their borrowings from their own earlier publications should not exceed 40%.
- Informs clearly of all potential conflicts of interest related to the manuscript publication.
- Expresses acknowledgements to all individuals/organizations that have assisted him/her in manuscript preparation.
- Follows manuscript publishing guidelines and text formatting rules required by the Journal.
- Is polite in his/her correspondence with the Editorial Board and is guided by the ethical principles and norms described above while responding to the reviewer’s criticism and in presenting their arguments.
- Adding co-authors, includes only those who have made a considerable contribution to the research itself and took part in the manuscript preparation.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in a reviewer’s own research without the express written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.
Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
Plagiarism detection
“NSU Vestnik. Series: Linguistics and Intercultural Communication" use native russian-language plagiarism detection software Antiplagiat to screen the submissions. If plagiarism is identified, the COPE guidelines on plagiarism will be followed.
Preprint and postprint Policy
Prior to acceptance and publication in “NSU Vestnik. Series: Linguistics and Intercultural Communication", authors may make their submissions available as preprints on personal or public websites.
As part of submission process, authors are required to confirm that the submission has not been previously published, nor has been submitted. After a manuscript has been published in “NSU Vestnik. Series: Linguistics and Intercultural Communication" we suggest that the link to the article on journal's website is used when the article is shared on personal or public websites.
